Production Switch Tamper, Model Mark IV
Today's Mark IV Tamper is a high tech, refined machine known for top quality production and switch tamping, and transit system work.
The Mark IV is equipped with Harsco Rail's Jupiter distributed input/output control system, and with System V software. Ergonomic operator control is provided through arm panel keypads, joysticks, an IBM compatible keyboard and a 15-inch super-VGA monitor as a graphical interface.
The System V system is based on preplotting of the curve either by the tamper and utilization of this alignment data to program the correction of the track prior to performing this correction. The current position of the track, the corrected alignment, the anticipated "throws" of the track, the time, data and track position can be plotted on board the machine or viewed on the operator's display screen. The machine control processor will perform an analysis of this curve data and generate a best correction of the curve for consideration. If not acceptable, this can be manually modified by "rubber-banding" to the desired position. The graphic output of the system highlights, using colors, the various on-screen information.
A solid-state removable USB flash drive is available with the machine for the transfer of track recordings and production reporting data. Curves that have been recorded may be transferred to this device and subsequently read by an IBM-compatible PC equipped with the optional System V office version (USB port required). The alignment of curves may be viewed in the office environment, modified or engineered as desired, saved to removable flash drive and returned to the machine for use. Upon insertion of the USB flash drive, curve data files transfer automatically, updating the information both on the machine and on the removable device.
The Harsco Rail's Mark IV - Added value through product improvement.
Major Features:
- Jupiter 2000 Control System uses remote I/O devices to simplify railway maintenance equipment's electrical control systems
- Advanced System V control system delivers accurate, repeatable results and effective operator interface for computer-controlled automatic ramping, superelevation, zeroing of references, and continuous cross level monitoring.
- Easy to use control system software monitors each circuit status "behind the scenes" and reports errors when they occur.
- Adjustable wheelbase improves the stability of the ties already tamped with rear axle close to workhead and improves lifting capability in switches and turnouts when extended.
Specifications
- MAIN FRAME - High strength steel, boxed beam, welded construction.
- WHEELS & AXLES - 30 in. (762 mm) cast steel (AAR profile) wheels on solid forged steel axles.
- SUSPENSION - Trunnion-mounted front axle and fixed rear axle with elastomer shock pads at each wheel.
- BRAKES - Air operated tread-type shoe brakes with cobra-type shoes on all four wheels. Spring-applied, air-released, parking/emergency brake for automatic brake actuation in case of air pressure loss.
- DRIVE TRAIN - Full time four-wheel drive with on the go upshift/downshift capability, two-speed traction motor.
