Tiger Tamper - 32 Tool Tamping

Tiger Tamper - 32 Tool Tamping

The Tiger Tamper is the result of Harsco Rail's continual commitment to improving its vast array of maintenance of way machines.

Harsco Rail's Tiger Tamper is a 32 tool Production / Switch Tamper that works in all tie situations, concrete, wood, skewed or unevenly spaced ties. Since the machine is equipped with a tie finder it can also tamp in flooded ballast conditions, for example behind an undercutter. Because of the tie finder it works in the automatic mode for maximum production with little intervention from the operator.

While the Tiger Tamper features many new tamping innovations, there's one thing that remains constant - the high quality track behind a Harsco Rail machine. Quality that comes from the superior ballast compaction of positive displacement vibrators and uniform tamping depth. Quality that comes from the accuracy of the Delta Reference System.

General Specifications

  • Jupiter Control System uses remote I/O devices to simplify railway maintenance equipment's electrical control systems.
  • Advanced System V control system delivers accurate, repeatable results and effective operator interface for computer-controlled automatic ramping, super elevation, zeroing of references, and continuous cross level monitoring.
  • Tie Finder (standard on the Tiger Tamper) allows the railroad to tamp more track at the end of the year even with an operator with only a few weeks training. Every operator performs to the same level whether you have a seasoned operator with years of experience or an operator that has just received 1-2 weeks of training.
  • Tiger Tamper will tamp switches/turnouts when required.
  • 32-tool tamping for higher productivity.
  • Like the MKIV it can continue to make high lifts and tamp with multiple insertions if and when required. Furthermore, the Tiger Tamper can introduce multiple insertions separately for each tamping head if required. For example, in areas where cross level conditions need more correction on one rail only.
  • Higher correction factors allows for better surfaced track condition.
  • Superior tamping performance in compacted ballast.
  • Proven Reliability
  • Proven lifting and lining system and the quality of the track it leaves behind the machine.
