TRT-909 Track Renewal System

TRT-909 Track Renewal System

Harsco Rail has long been recognized in the industry as a leader in the design and manufacture of track renewal systems. Since the late 1970's, Harsco Rail has been meeting the requirements of the railroads to provide a better and faster way to handle the job of major track renewal programs. We are pleased to offer our latest track renewal system, the TRT-909

In addition to the basic function of removing and replacing crossties, this machine also pulls spikes, reclaims the spikes, removes and collects rail anchors, removes the old rail, installs new rail, heats the rail with induction Rail Heaters and automatically applies the McKay type rail fastenings. Other types of fasteners can be applied depending on customer requirements.

Simplicity

Within minutes after arriving at the worksite the TRT-909 can be in full operation to maximize utilization of the track possession. Similarly, at the end of the work period, cut out time and preparation for track travel is accomplished in short order.

Operation

On arrival at the worksite, the old rails are cut and spread. A crawler track assembly is lowered to support the wheels of the central bogie. The new and old rails are then placed into position in the rollers for the threading operation and the TRT-909 is now ready for production work.

Spike Pullers

Spike pullers, one located over each rail, remove the field side spikes leaving the gauge side spikes to hold the tie plate in a fixed position.

Old Tie Equipment

The old crossties are lifted from the roadbed and placed on the conveyor by the Old Tie Pick-Up Mechanism. The old ties are then transported by conveyors to a staging area where a gantry collects them for transport to storage areas on the flatcars.

Roadbed Preparation

Immediately behind the Old Tie Pick-Up Mechanism, a ballast spreader/plow destroys the old tie molds and undercuts the ballast section to prepare the roadbed for the new ties.

New Tie Laying

The new ties are then positioned on the prepared roadbed by the New Tie Laying Mechanism. A tie spacer bar squares up the crossties after they are laid on the track bed. A distance counter wheel controls the spacing of the ties and is adjustable to meet various tie spacing requirements.

Rail Laying/Threading

Using a series of rollers, the old rail is removed and threaded out along side of the track and the new rail is picked up from the shoulder and laid in gauged position. Thus the machine simultaneously removes the old rail while laying the new rail.

Gantries

Each self-propelled gantry has one operator. The rear gantries transport ties to and from the front gantry which in turn moves ties to and from the old and new tie conveyors.

Flat Cars

Standard flat cars are equipped with auxiliary rails which form a continuous running rail for the gantries. The flat cars are stocked with new ties in 4 or 5 layers. As new ties are used, old ties are stored on the flat cars.
